To add my comment about "ripping off"---what exactly do we all do when we "shell out" $24 for a tee shirt.

If you examine the process by any band that offers merchandise--you become a walking billboard/advertisement
FOR FREE for the band you enjoy.

They get your money and free walking, mobile add.

How much would a band like "Metallica" have to "pay" for the tee-shirts and other paraphernalia?

Just giving the other side of the issue; as Henry James, our greatest American author states: The whole[of any object, person, occurance] is never fully known. One cannot argument with a singular view and not consider the alternative perspective. How do we know which view or argument is "correct"? it is the most compelling

Having said that, the argument about copying music, inventions, melodies can be found in the books and articles by K. Appiah, a modern philosphical activist, who in his article, "Whose Culture Is It Anyway" where he asks Who owns Art? Who owns the artifacts of a culture? And how can we negotiate owenership in a way that allows ALL INDIVIDUAL to PARTICIPATE (or engage) in beauty? Please download this man's articles--he develops a compelling argument about the sharing of a culture's asthetics and what we can do about the question of ownership. Is ART owned? or is it for all who want to engage without profit; the musicians are NOT excluded from making money in the ways I state above.

On the success of the book, Hoffman was quoted as saying, "It's embarrassing when you try to overthrow the government and you wind up on the Best Seller's List."

"Steal This Book" includes advice on such topics as growing marijuana, starting a pirate radio station, living in a commune, stealing food, shoplifting, stealing credit cards, preparing a legal defense, making pipe bombs, and obtaining a free buffalo from the U.S. Department of the Interior. It discusses various tactics of fighting as well as giving a detailed list of affordable and easy ways to find weapons and armor that can be used in the event of a confrontation with law enforcement. The book advocates rebelling against authority in all forms, governmental and corporate."

I read this book of Abbie Hoffman about three decades ago ! Saw your medical registry ,and what a lucky you are ! In France ,no such luck for us,the creepos prefer to legalize only killer stuff (booze/tobacco).only Holland and swizerland are decent about legal pot quality smoke . I don't think they have much in Spain, No humbolt gold!,and in France they don't even know what a good joint is all about .But me I remember it, so send me that good smell on cosmic wire ,next time you smoke a good one !!!
